Immerse yourself in the second library of the Ambisonics series by USO. These “Runaway Trains” were recorded with a Senneheiser Ambeo and a Sonosax R4+ in and around the Milano Greco Pirelli railway station, which is part of the so-called “Milan Circle Line,” a railway loop which circumnavigates the city.
The library contains a lot of passing trains and ambient sounds recorded very close to the railway, both by day and by night. There has been no further processing, although I did carefully remove all the Italian P.A. announcements, to make life easier for the editors during the sound montage.

Runaway Trains is available in three versions:

A-format: $ 79
(stereo and binaural versions are included as well)

Channel Layout: /FLU/FRD/BLD/BRU

B-format ambiX: $ 79
(stereo and binaural versions are included as well)
Channel Layout: /W/Y/Z/X

B-format FuMa: $ 79
(stereo and binaural versions are included as well)

Channel Layout: /W/X/Y/Z

Audio Format: Interleaved Broadcast Wave Files (.wav)
Sample Rate: 96 kHz
Bit Depth: 24-bit
Size: 16.41 GB

For the A-format you’ll need the AMBEO A-B format converter, available at no cost (the A-format files were recorded with the Ambeo microphone in upright position).
The FuMa channel ordering is different from the ambiX (WXYZ with W -3dB compared to WYZX ambiX standard). You can easily convert FuMa to ambiX and viceversa with Ambi Converter, a free utility by Noise Makers.
Stereo versions are decoded to 180° stereo; binaural versions are created using Noise Makers Ambi Head with the Neumann KU 100 HRTF.
You can transform these B-format files into your preferred standard (up to 7.1.4 surround) by using the free SoundField by RØDE plugin.

A useful bonus, too: you will find some ready-to-use backgrounds as “airfill” between the passing trains to create continuity in a longer scene, if need be. The ambient sounds are also great as a standalone! All aboard, the train is coming!
